A Musical Comedy
Book by Michael Stewart | Music by Charles Strouse | Lyrics by Lee Adams
Originally Produced by Edward Padula
Bye Bye Birdie is one of the most captivating musical satires ever written. With fond affection and tremendous wit, the show tells the story of a rock and roll singer who is about to be inducted into the army, which creates havoc for Albert, his manager, and Albert’s long-suffering girlfriend. They three in turn create havoc for all of Sweet Apple, Ohio. The score brims with classics such as “Put on a Happy Face,” “A Lot of Livin’ To Do,” “One Last Kiss,” “One Boy,” the riotous lament of parents with teenagers “Kids” and an uproarious salute to the greater glory of Ed Sullivan.
