Saxophonist Branford Marsalis and composer Heitor Villa-Lobos share a taste for a broad range of musical styles. Marsalis has played with the greats of jazz and with orchestras around the world. Villa-Lobos took his influences from classical composers and folk rhythms, popular music and urban dance. This fall, the eldest Marsalis brother is touring with members of the Filharmonia Brasileira (Gil Jardin, conductor) in a celebration of the music of Villa-Lobos, 50 years after the composers death. Musical boundaries will vanish in an evening certain to be filled with inspired performances.
